Safety Analysis and Hazard Analysis
A safety or hazard analysis is the process is a means of studying data to determine trends or identify
problems areas. There are two types of hazard analysis that should be undertaken:
A trend analysis involves looking at statistical data on accidents in an effort to identify trends that may be
causes for concern or action. Statistical data might include a breakout of accidents by time period (date and
time of day of the accident), by department, by accident type, or anyone of several other factors, to include,
but not limited to times of the year, productivity issues, staffing levels, etc. . .
A job safety analysis (JSA) is a means of identifying a particular hazard associated with a particular job
task and the application of specific measures to prevent an accident by reducing or eliminating the hazard.
The safety program must specify who is responsible for conducting each analysis. There are very specific
items to be addressed in conducting a proper hazard analysis (see Hazard Analysis Program link)
