THE INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS ORGANIZATION (ISO) has established six basic classification codes for building construction types depending on how susceptible the structure is to fire damages.
ISO CLASS 1 -Frame. Load-bearing components are constructed of wood or other combustible components or any structure that can not otherwise be
classified. (Exterior walls may be covered with stucco, brick or metal clad)
ISO CLASS 2 - Jointed Masonry. Exterior walls constructed of brick, adobe, concrete,gypsum block, stone, tile or similar materials with a combustible floor or roof.
TWO SUB- CLASSES 1) Ordinary Construction- Load-bearing exterior walls with min one (1) hr fire and floors and roof are combustible 2) Heavy Timber- 2 hr min fire rating on load-bearing walls, wood columns at least 8inches thick all sides, wood beams supports and ties at least 6 inches wide or teninches deep, floors having tongue and groove planks 3 inches thick with oneinch overlay and roof decks at least two inches thick
